H. Allen Hight Elementary
Students who walk or bike to school are more alert in class and able to concentrate better.
About Walking Wednesdays
Walking and biking to school reduces traffic, promotes learning and good health, and helps the environment. Join the movement and walk, bike, or skate to school every Wednesday.
Students in grades K-2 should stop by our table at the east end of campus to get their Walking Wednesdays card punched in the morning. They will also earn and accumulate an assortment of different colored charms throughout the year to display their love for walking/biking to school.
Students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to earn Boot Bucks in the Trip Scanner program. Be sure to get your Trip Scanner tag scanned in each Wednesday that you walk, bike, or skate to school.
Do you live too far away from school to walk from home? Park at least 3 blocks away from school and walk the rest of the way in. Walking at least 3 blocks from school is counted as a walking day for the Walking Wednesdays program.
Walking School Bus
Can’t walk your child to school? Join a walking school bus! Students will walk together as a group to school; adult volunteers will be present. Is that time and location not convenient for you? Start your own walking group with friends and neighbors!
Meet up with the walking school bus at 7:30 am under the shaded picnic structure at Kokomo Park (Ottumwa Dr).
Or, meet up with the walking school bus at 7:20 am at Valley Oak Park.
Get Involved
Volunteers are needed at the Walking Wednesdays’ table at the east end of campus on Kokomo Drive to help punch cards and distribute charms from 7:15 am – 8:00 am.
Or, if you would rather combine your morning workout with your volunteerism, you can chaperone the walking school bus - meet up at Kokomo Park (Ottumwa Dr.) at the shaded picnic structure between 7:30 and 7:40 am.
Stop by the Walking Wednesdays' table or email Christa for more information and to get started!
