Earn-a-Bike Program

The Earn-a-Bike program provides individuals who live or work in North Natomas with the opportunity to participate in a hands-on bicycle course to earn $450 towards a new bicycle.

Are you ready to trade in some vehicle trips for miles in the saddle? The program is open to those 18 and over looking to use a bicycle to get to work, take their kids to school, visit friends, run errands…you name it. We want to help you swap your vehicle trips for bicycle trips.

The 14-hour course will cover many bicycle-related topics in three main areas: bike maintenance, bike handling, and traffic skills navigation. The course is taught by League of American Bicyclists certified instructors and held at Inderkum High School.

Enrollment is limited, applicants will be selected based on a review of their application by a committee of staff and community members.

In order to earn a bike, adults are required to:

  • Live or work in North Natomas
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Participate in a 14-hour course that will include hands-on bike maintenance, bike handling, and traffic skills instruction
  • Complete a riding habits survey prior to class start, as well as two follow-up surveys upon completion of program - one at 6 months and one at 12 months.
  • After completion of the class, participants will receive a voucher for $450 to use at area bike shops.

This year's Earn-a-Bike program is complete. Stay tuned in early 2019 for future program information.
